I shared with my colleagues at the Tracy Press the 2010 first place prize for breaking news from the California Newspaper Publishers Association for our coverage of the Sandra Cantu murder case. I shared a CNPA blue ribbon award in 2016 for a column I wrote for the Morgan Hill Times. In 2017, I won three CNPA awards: first place for investigative reporting (Skipping Out on Bail), second place for writing (Stuck Lovers) and second place for enterprise story (So You Think You Can Help?).
In 2018, I won the James Madison Freedom of Information Award from the Society of Professional Journalists and four CNPA awards: first place for investigative reporting (for coverage of corrupt child care nonprofit), finalist for investigative reporting (Rogue Rehab), second place for business news (South Bay Pizzeria Slices Up Ownership) and third place shared with my publisher Dan Pulcrano and former editor Josh Koehn and for public service journalism (Floodgate: How the Water District and the City's Comedy of Errors Became a Local Tragedy).
Also in 2018, the Association of Alternative Newsmedia awarded me first place in the "Free Speech" category for my reporting on a city manager misspending taxpayer money. In November of 2018, the Society of Professional Journalists Northern California Chapter awarded me two first place prizes for “Best Scoop” and “Investigative Reporting.”
